Introduction

My name is Adrian Kombe and I am a mechanical design engineer living in Brooklyn, NY.  I received my bachelor’s degree in from Northeastern University where I did 3 long-term internships. I have known I wanted to be an engineer since I was 13, building passive go-karts and pushing them down hills.

Where I Would Like to Work

My ideal workplace would be an environment where I am part of a driven, diverse and creative team focused on bringing products to market that will shift industry standards. A place where pragmatism and detailed research can find a median with out-of-the-box solutions.

Professional Summary

I most recently worked for Makerbot (now UltiMaker) as a staff-level mechanical engineer focused on bringing the Method XL into production. I joined at the beginning of DVT 1, which required the design of extremely complicated plastic parts, execution of thermal and system leveling tests and statistical analysis of bead measurement data.  A majority of my efforts were concentrated on bringing a functioning prototype to the extremely high threshold of engineering-grade consumable product.

At Wahoo Fitness, I was part of the indoor cycling team where I design injection molded, machined and cast parts for mass production. I joined at a pivotal time when many projects were in the prototype stage and I took a deep dive into creating 3D prints DFMEA and creating test plans.

As a mechanical design engineer intern at Bose, I participated in the design, development and testing of concept and in-development speaker systems. In the product development process, I applied my thermofluids experience to reduce the internal temperature of PCBs within plastic enclosures and mitigated the resonance frequencies with isolators.

In 2017, I worked for Formula D Interactive, an interactive exhibit design company, in Cape Town, South Africa. I learned a plethora about what constitutes “good” design and how I can utilize my engineering education to best assist a team of industrial designers, software developers, managers, etc.

The A&P Group (located in Doha, Qatar) is the MEP contractor for Doha Oasis, which was one of the largest mixed-use construction projects in the world. In 2018, I was a mechanical engineer trainee and oversaw all of the Testing and Commissioning Manager. This position forced me to develop my supplier/subcontractor negotiation skills rapidly and exposed me to building services engineering on the largest scale possible.

Interests

Outside of bringing innovative products to market, my interests include modern art, cycling,  international travel and cooking classes.
